Ontario and Wellington North are working with the local business community to help the economy.

At a breakfast meeting hosted by the Mount Forest Chamber of Commerce, Minister of Energy John Wilkinson announced $15,000 in funding through Ontario Ministry of Agriculture Food and Rural Affairs.

“By investing in this strategic plan, we’re helping business and residents grow our local economy and create jobs in the heart of our rural community,” he said. “This support ensures a brighter future for families here in Wellington North,” Wilkinson said.

With support from the provincial rural economic development program, the township is developing a plan to stimulate and guide economic development in its downtowns.

That would help the community preserve and restore historic buildings through the use of green technologies; create affordable downtown housing; increase tourism and shopping opportunities; expand the market for local businesses; and create new local jobs. This will help strengthen the existing business community and create a vibrant  economic climate to attract new businesses and workers to the area.

“We are glad to be working with the province to grow and strengthen our economy and revitalize our downtown community,” said Wellington North Mayor Ray Tout.
