"Everyday Heroes" honoured by Upper Grand school board
The Upper Grand District School Board honoured this year’s Everyday Heroes at a reception on May 27. The “heroes” include volunteers, a crossing guard, teacher, board staff, and others.
The 10 honorees are:
- ConnectHEAR, an initiative for students with hearing loss, coordinated by Trudy Counter, coordinator of Communication, Language and Speech Services, Sonya White and Stacey Giffen, itinerant teachers of the deaf and hard of hearing, Ashley Champ, speech-Language pathologist and Lesley Anne Jordan, Special Education Consultant – Orangeville Board Office;
- Sheila Parker, manager of Budget and Financial Reporting, Guelph Board Office;
- Cheryl VanOoteghem, principal of program, Orangeville Board Office;
- Alana Lefebvre, coordinator of Nutrition Program, Rockwood Centennial Public School;
- Deb Kortleve, teacher, Erin District High School, various locations;
- Philip Hinton, crossing guard, École Harris Mill and Rockwood Centennial Public School;
- Andy Speers, teacher, Drayton Heights Public School;
- Lois and Matthew Metzger, volunteers, Drayton Heights Public School;
- Angie Tersigni, volunteer, Gateway Drive Public School; and
- Neil Blair, volunteer, Guelph Collegiate and Vocational Institute.
The criteria for the annual awards are: performance at a high level at all times, significant school or system achievement, or a unique circumstance worthy of recognition. The winners were honoured at a reception at the E. L. Fox Auditorium at John F. Ross CVI on May 27.
