Yukon honours Minto’s Don Douglas

D.J. (Don) Douglas, formerly of Minto Township was inducted into the Yukon Tran­sportation Hall Of Fame in the Order of Polaris here June 2.

The order of Polaris is award­ed to individuals whose contribution to aviation include meritorious service in the Yukon, significant contribution to and advancement of the aviation industry, and leading improvements in  the welfare of Yukon communities.

In Douglas’ 55-plus years in aviation he focused on improv­ing northern aviation facilities, aviation weather services, acci­dent prevention and aviation safety programs.

Douglas is an honourary life member of the Northern Air Transport Association, a past director of the International Northwest Aviation Council, a 50 years member of the Ed­monton Quarter Century Avi­ation Club, the Edmonton Pro­bus Club, and an honourary Colonel in the Canadian Armed Services.

He is a recipient if the Molly Reilly memorial award, The COPA  appreciation award and the international North­west Aviation Council Presi­dent’s award for Outstanding Leader­ship, Dedication and Promo­tion to the Aviation In­dustry.

Douglas is the son of Edna and Jim Douglas, and is married to Jean Pringle, form­er­ly of Fergus.
