Youth Summer Market coming to Harriston Aug. 9

HARRISTON – The Minto Chamber of Commerce  recently announced its inaugural Youth Summer Market, a community event dedicated to supporting and showcasing the entrepreneurial spirit of local youth.

This market will take place on Aug. 9 from 10am to 1pm at the Old Post Building Parking Lot, located at 39 Elora St. South, Harriston.

The Youth Summer Market aims to provide a unique platform for young entrepreneurs from the Minto area to present their innovative products and services to the community.

Many youths participating in this market are past and present participants of the Student Start Up Program (SSUP), an initiative run by the Saugeen Connects Project Partners since 2019.

The market offers a tangible next step for aspiring business owners to apply their learned skills and connect with a wider audience, officials stated.

“Attendees will have the opportunity to directly support these budding business leaders while enjoying a lively day of entertainment and activities,” states a press release.

The market will happen in tandem with the annual Harriston Street Party, hosted by the Harriston Rising committee and town.

“We are incredibly excited to host this Youth Summer Market,” stated  Minto Chamber of Commerce business development coordinator Raisa Abrahim.

“It’s a fantastic way to foster entrepreneurship among our youth and give them real-world experience in business.

“Seeing the talent that has emerged from programs like SSUP is truly inspiring,” Abrahim stated,

“More importantly, it’s a chance for our community to come together, celebrate local talent, and enjoy a fun-filled evening,” she added.

The market will feature a diverse array of youth vendors, offering everything from handmade crafts and unique services to creative goods, officials stated.

“In addition to shopping, the event promises fun for the entire family,” including:

  • ice cream and Sizzling BBQ provided by May’s Cafe at the Old Post;
  • kids zone with a bounce castle, face painting, animal balloons and a live DJ; and
  • networking opportunities for local businesses and community members.

This event is part of the Minto Chamber of Commerce’s ongoing commitment to community development and supporting the growth of local businesses, from the newest startups to established enterprises, officials state.

Admission is free and purchases from vendors directly support youth entrepreneurs.
