Youth Outdoors Day deadline is July 25

The 8th annual Youth Outdoors Day is planned for Sept. 19 at Luther Marsh Conservation Area.

The registration deadline is July 25, with registration set at 250. Youths can register on line at youthoutdoorsday.com.

Last year, 250 attended the event, which offers hands-on hunting and wildlife conservation activities. The one-day event has activities that include bird identification, banding, and calling; birdhouse building; supervised target shooting; wetland habitat rehabilitation; and fly fishing. There will also be a number of demonstrations on falconry, the use of retriever and pointer hunting dogs, humane trapping techniques and bow hunting.

The event was created to introduce youth to outdoor activities and gain an appreciation for the natural environment. The activities expose youth to a variety of outdoor related topics.

The recommended age group for the day is 10 to 17.

Luther Marsh is part of the Grand River Conservation Authority, and is a 5,666 hectare wildlife management area that is home to a variety of wetland and upland wildlife including the osprey. Luther March is located 25km west of Orangeville, 10 km east of Arthur.
