Young performers to take the stage in holiday musicals

Ellyse Wolter from Elora is among the 67 young performers from Waterloo Region who will embark on a fairy tale adventure this holiday season.

As part of Drayton Entertainment’s audience development program, local youth have been cast in the upcoming productions of Snow White: The Panto at the St. Jacobs Country Playhouse and Disney’s The Little Mermaid at the Dunfield Theatre Cambridge. Both plays are on stage Nov. 19 to Dec. 21.

“We are consistently amazed by the tremendous wealth of young talent in this community,” says Alex Mustakas, artistic director of Drayton Entertainment.

Nearly 140 young performers attended an open casting last month. Hopefuls had to demonstrate singing and dancing in order to keep up with the  rehearsal schedule.

Theatre Cambridge will welcome 25 youth performers divided into two teams for the production of Disney’s The Little Mermaid.

At St. Jacobs Country Playhouse, Snow White: The Panto will have 42 performers divided into three teams.

With both productions over 80 per cent sold out and the holiday season approaching, it is recommended to purchase tickets in advance.

Regular performance tickets are $42 for adults; $25 for youth under 20 years of age. Tickets for preview performances scheduled before the official opening and groups of 20 or more are $34.

Tickets can be purchased at www.draytonentertainment.com, in person at any Drayton Entertainment box office or by calling toll free 1-855-DRAYTON (372-9866).
