PALMERSTON – A new beauty salon, owned by a young entrepreneur, is slated to hold its grand opening very soon.
Nicole Crispin, 20, has had a passion for all things hair and cosmetics since a young age – using her two sisters as “guinea pigs” for practice while they were growing up.
Although the spark was there, it only turned into a flame when she was introduced to a cosmetology program at Norwell District Secondary School.
“I did all four of my years, a course each semester, so I loved the cosmo class,” she told the Community News. “That’s where I really fell in love with hair dressing and aesthetics.”
Once Crispin graduated from high school last June, she went straight into a hair styling school in Waterloo.
She earned success in her courses and completed her apprenticeship.
“And now I’m opening my own business,” she said.
Her business, Elegant Aesthetics, resides at 125 Main St. E. in the heart of Palmerston.
Crispin will be focusing on her hair stylist journey, offering various hair services. The salon will also offer services for:
– nails;
– lashes;
– spray tanning; and
– waxing.
These services will be offered by an employee of Elegant Aesthetics.
“Just the two of us for right now,” she said.
Asked if she is nervous about opening the business, Crispin replied, “There’s always the unknown,” but for the most part she is excited and feeling confident.
Her vision for the business is a “welcoming and cozy vibe” with more of a modern look.
“I think it’s important to have something like this in this small town of Palmerston,” she said. “We really don’t have anything for aesthetics here so I think it’s going to be great.”
“I just dream to have a successful business that I can come to work every day and have a full day of work,” she said.
Grand opening
The salon is to host its grand opening on May 10 from 1 to 4pm (125 Main St. E.).
Crispin noted it will be an open house where guests can come and go as they please.
To build excitement for the new business, giveaways and door prizes will be up for grabs.
“I hope as I get going and get busier I have a place of employment for people,” Crispin said.
“Especially for young people going through cosmo at Norwell.”
As she grows with her business, that would be a true full-circle moment.
