Yard sale raises $2,200 for Meals on Wheels

Shoppers can always find something to treasure, eat or cherish at the Clifford Community Meals on Wheels Annual Yard and Bake Sale, which this year was held on June 1 at the Rotary Park in Clifford.

President Alieda Murray was pleased with the $2,232 raised that day through donations of sale items, baked goods and the sale of hot dogs.

Eleanore and Wes Gerber organized the event and were grateful to the 40 volunteers and everyone who dropped off items, set them out on the tables or shopped at the event.

The cookbooks, toys, clothes, tools, books, seasonal items, wood working, tea cups, coffee cups, records, novelty items may have had a price tag on them from a previous sale, but there were no price stickers at the sale. The signs read no pricing, donations only.

As usual, not everything sells, so there is a whole crew that stopped by on Sunday and start packing up the leftovers to go to some people who are willing to take a trailer load, a load of books, a load to the diabetes clothesline program, and a load or two to the recycle bins.

Meals on Wheels needs to purchase warming trays from time to time and buy insert trays for the food. The meals are prepared by the staff at the Redwood Restaurant and delivered by volunteers at noon on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays every week of the year.
