World record attempt

The University of Guelph Physics and Astronomy Club attempted to break a Guinness World Record on May 9 for the largest Elephant’s Toothpaste ever created. The club scaled up the children’s version of the experiment, which involves a mixture of peroxide, soap and a catalyst, resulting in an eruption of safe, soapy foam. The Guelph Physics and Astronomy Club used a 25-gallon drum, aiming to create 13 cubic metres of foam. After the record attempt, Jason Orbax Thomas, science communications officer for the Department of Physics, said the footage and evidence was sent to Guinness World Record headquarters in London, England. It will be reviewed for the next few months. “We will have to wait for their response, but we are hopeful we set a new record,” he said.  Photo by Jaime Myslik
