Women's Institute members raise funds for Lyme disease research

Lyme disease has become a growing health crisis in Canada.

The disease is difficult to diagnose in this country, with more education, proper screening and funding needed to ensure people are not misdiagnosed.

When left undetected, the damage can be irreversible and potentially life-threatening.

Members of the Federated Women’s Institutes of Ontario (FWIO) are concerned about the prevalence of Lyme disease and have taken action.

For the past several months, WI members have been holding educational programs and raising funds to support research.

On June 15, FWIO will present a donation, on behalf of WI Members across Ontario, to the G. Magnotta Lyme Disease Research Lab at the University of Guelph.

Research done through the lab is expected to lead to better diagnostics and treatment for Canadians.

This contribution is fitting as the Women’s Institute’s co-founder, Adelaide Hoodless, also co-founded the University’s Macdonald Institute over a century ago, the FWIO states in a press release.
