- Winter weather is having an impact on the rebuild of the Fergus branch of the Wellington County Library.

At a Centre Wellington committee of the whole meeting on March 10, Mayor Joanne Ross-Zuj noted her attendance at a library site meeting earlier in the day.

She said there have been frozen pipe issues, but as of March 10, “everything was working just fine.” She added the degree the ground has frozen has caused issues all over the municipality.

“We are finding that pipes are frozen all over. People have gone on vacation and haven’t left water running ... and the pipes have frozen.”

She said the public works department has been extremely busy going from place to place to get on top of the problem.

And with the ground frozen as it is, “water is flowing everywhere and finding new paths.”

She said people who never had issues with water in their basements now have some.

“We haven’t had this happen for many, many years. Water has to find its route. Some people have not had the effect, but for others, the water is rolling down the walls.”
