WHSS Varsity Boys Soccer team on route to CWOSSA championships

MOUNT FOREST – The Wellington Heights Varsity Boys Soccer team travelled to Sacred Heart Catholic High School in Walkerton on May 2 to compete in a 10-team soccer tournament.

The Wolverines played against teams from a wide geographical area, many of which have student populations over twice the size as Wellington Heights’.

“The Wolverines played with pride and skill, and they worked together very well as a team to finish the round robin play undefeated,” Wellington Heights officials stated.

Wellington Heights defeated Sacred Heart Catholic High School (Walkerton) 2-0, tied St. David’s Catholic Secondary School (Waterloo) 1-1, tied Owen Sound District Secondary School (Owen Sound) 1-1, and beat Lambton Kent Composite School (Dresden) 5-1.

In the finals the Wolverines played St. Mary’s Catholic High School from Owen Sound, and WHSS won the championship by a score of 2-1 on penalty kicks.

Goal scorers in the final were Chase Leask and Steve Hernandez.

The Wolverines are gearing up for the CWOSSA Championships May 27 to 29, which will be held in the Town of Erin.
