When Tomorrow Never Comes

When tomorrow never comes,

And my time on earth is over.

Will there be a new life that awaits,

The open swing of the golden gates?

When tomorrow never comes.

When tomorrow never comes

Will my Little Lady be patiently waiting?

Or will she be anxious at the gate,

To give me hell for being late

When tomorrow never comes.

When tomorrow never comes,

Will yesteryears return to memory,

Will she greet me with arms open wide,

The need for all words set aside,

When tomorrow never comes.

When tomorrow never comes,

And we’re once again together.

Will hunger of a heavy heart,

Remembered teardrops all depart?

When tomorrow never comes.

When tomorrow never comes,

Will golden gates swing wide and open?

Will tears once again streak a cheek,

Tears of joy, when again we meet.

When tomorrow never comes.

When tomorrow never comes,

Is it truth, or just contemplation,

Is heaven and hell here on this earth?

Or is it fiction, written as mirth?

When tomorrow never comes.

When tomorrow never comes,

Is it just hope and speculation?

When time on earth I cannot borrow,

What will happen on that morrow?

When tomorrow never comes.

When tomorrow never comes,

Will we walk hand and hand together?

Will I once again see both my sons?

Taken by accidents, while both quite young.

When tomorrow never comes.

When tomorrow never comes,

The truth on earth will not be known.

There is not a single able tongue,

In truth tell happenings yet to come.

When tomorrow never comes.

When tomorrow never comes

For me, in the near or distant future.

Will the answers, then, I know?

Will I be contented then to go?

When tomorrow never comes.

* * *

Though my beliefs follow closely that of the Little Lady’s, these thoughts, in verse, flowed freely as queries and unanswered whys twisted and churned in my mind, while I placed an orchid on her headstone on July 12, the date of my Little Lady’s birthday. Take care, ’cause we care.
