Wellington Soil Conservation 4H Club visits John Deere Dealership
ELMIRA – The Wellington Soil Conservation 4H Club visited the John Deere Dealership in Elmira on July 8. The non-profit youth development organization offers a range of clubs each year to help build youth as leaders for the community. This group of youth got to see pictures of the farms from a drone, allowing them to zoom into the images and count the plants individually. They also learned and saw first hand the sensors on some of the tractors and combines that detect if a plant is unhealthy, indicating the soil may be unhealthy.
The youth group learned about yield maps and the possibilities of healthy/unhealthy soil.
