Wellington North hires new treasurer

After months of searching Wellington North Township has a new treasurer.

Mayor Ray Tout announced the hiring of Paul Dowber as treasurer for the municipality at the March 10 council meeting. Dowber will officially take the post effective March 31.

Dowber was born and raised in Peterborough. He and his wife started a pottery business and ran a home decor shop in the St. Lawrence area of Toronto.

They made a move to southwestern Ontario, where they remain today with their three children, to continue their business and start a family.

After eight years of being self employed, Dowber decided to return to school.

He is a Certified General Accountant with a bachelor of business administration in accounting and IT. He has experience with a wide range of accounting functions in profit, not-for profit and municipal government and comes to Wellington North from the Township of Woolwich, where he worked as a financial analyst. As well, he is a continuing education instructor with Conestoga College’s school of business.

Dowber said he is looking forward to coming to Wellington North as the new treasurer.

Tout said, “We are pleased to have Paul join the Wellington North team as part of our professional staff.”

He replaces township CAO Mike Givens who held the treasurer position prior to his promotion to CAO. Givens has been acting treasurer.
