Wellington North extends fire chief appointment

Wellington North has extended the appointment of Dave Guilbault as fire chief for Wellington North Fire Service.

The extension, which removes the interim status of Guilbault’s original appointment, was announced in a press released issued by the municipality on Aug. 11.

The release states Guilbault, who was appointed acting chief in April, “has committed to the community of Wellington North and council looks forward to a progressive, consistent approach to fire services for a number of years under his leadership.”

Guilbault is a veteran firefighter with over 39 years experience.

He has been a chief fire officer for close to 23 years and has worked in the City of Kanata, Town of Ancaster, Municipality of Chatham Kent and the City of Kawartha Lakes.

Guilbault was named Canadian Fire Chief of the Year in 2005, Ontario Fire Chief of the Year in 1997 and again in 2007.

“He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the Wellington North Fire Service,” the release states.

A bylaw confirming the appointment will be on the agenda at the Sept. 29 council meeting.
