Wellington North briefly becomes ‘Hollywood North’

KENILWORTH – DC’s Titans will be making a positive impact in Wellington North.

On Sept. 9, Wellington North councillors received a report by township clerk Karren Wallace and fiance director Adam McNabb regarding a donation by 3253 Production Services Inc.

In mid-August the production company approached the municipality seeking assistance in shooting an episode of Titans in and near Arthur.

Titans is an American web television series created by Akiva Goldsman, Geoff Johns and Greg Berlanti for DC Universe.

The show, based on DC Comics’ Teen Titans, depicts a group of young heroes who join forces in their fight against evil.

Filming occurred on Aug. 28 on a private property in Arthur, using wind turbines in the distance as a backdrop.

Restoration/clean up occurred on Aug. 29 and 30.

After filming was complete, the company presented a $5,000 cheque to the municipality.

The company requested the donation be made on its behalf to local community groups, organizations or projects.

Donation recipients

Staff identified two ongoing projects as well as two volunteer organizations as recipients of the following:

– Arthur BMX/Skateboard park: $2,000;

– Mount Forest splash pad: $2,000;

– Arthur Food Bank: $500; and

– Mount Forest Community Food Pantry: $500.

Mayor Andy Lennox noted the donations are going to worthy projects in Arthur and Mount Forest.

In response to the local filming, councillor Steve McCabe said, “I didn’t expect we’d become Hollywood North.”

He added, “I think this is a really neat story, that they approached this municipality and were able to donate $5,000 to these local causes.

“It’s fantastic.”

He hoped there was a means to attract more of this industry.

“This really helps out the foodbank, skatepark and splash pad.”
