KENILWORTH – Wellington North’s community improvement program provides funding for individuals, businesses and organizations working to revitalize or redevelop their buildings or properties.
The latest funding recipient is Trina Reid for her business Hair by Trina.
Reid will receive $285 to go towards new signage outside the business at 140 Wellington St. in Mount Forest.
The grant was approved during a regular meeting of council on Dec. 1.
Councillor Sherry Burke said she always likes to highlight the community improvement program “so that folks that haven’t applied, that maybe are considering applying, do that.”
Since the program launched in 2011, the township has supported 179 applicants with more than $4 million in improvement work.
Of that amount, applicants covered 88 per cent of the costs while the township covered 12% with grants and loans.
That includes $25,868 so far this year. The township budgeted $35,000 for the program in 2025.
“I think that shouldn’t be taken lightly,” Burke said.
According to a report about the recent grant, “Reid has been operating a successful business for many years in the community, including the salon’s former location, known as Hybrid Hair and Detox Spa for five years with her business partner.
“The new sign plaques will be an elegant black and gold and will be easily installed onto the free-standing sign that is currently located” in front of the business, the report continues. “The sign plaques will be made of durable materials that will withstand Canadian winter conditions.”
The total cost for the sign is $571, and Reid is eligible for a township grant covering 50%.
