Wellington foster families celebrated

Family and Children’s Services of Guelph and Wellington County (F&CS) is celebrating National Foster Family Week which is held the third week of October each year.

“We would like to thank all of our foster families for the important role they play in the lives of children in our community”, says Susan Lapper, Supervisor at F&CS. “Foster families make a difference and we appreciate all of the work that they do.”

Foster families go through a detailed and standardized application and screening process and are required to attend training prior to becoming an approved Foster Family. Once approved, foster families receive ongoing support from a worker and some financial assistance once a child is placed in their home.

F&CS is specifically looking for foster parents who are able to provide homes for teenagers and sibling groups. Foster parents come from all walks of life and we encourage anyone who is interested to learn more to visit our website www.fcsgw.org or call us at 519-824-2410.

To thank the 90 foster families, as well as the families that have recently had a child join their family through adoption and those families recently approved to adopt children or youth, F&CS is hosting an Appreciation dinner on Oct. 24, at the Ariss Valley Golf and Country Club (RR #1, County Rd. #86, Guelph).

Call Kirk Jenkins at 519-824-2410 ext. 3414 for more information.
