OPP launches Project Safe Trade

WELLINGTON COUNTY – In order to increase public safety and reduce crime, the County of Wellington OPP is inviting members of the public to use their detachment parking lots to facilitate property transactions arranged online.

Project Safe Trade started as a pilot project in 2016 in Essex County. Since then, the project has expanded to at least a dozen other OPP detachments across the province.

Wellington County OPP launched its version of Project Safe Trade on March 29. Safe spaces to facilitate transactions will be offered at detachment locations in Aboyne, Rockwood and Teviotdale.

Police note online classified and auction sites are often used as tools to sell stolen property to unknowing victims and can present a safety threat.
