Wellington Artists Gallery partners with Elora Centre for the Arts

The artists of the Wellington Artists Gallery in Fergus have partnered with the Elora Centre for the Arts.

“Historically we have closed the Wellington Artists Gallery in the middle of November, reopening in May,” said John McGill, chair of the Wellington Artists Gallery.

“This is a wonderful opportunity to showcase the talents of our members during the winter months. With plans for a Christmas show and Holiday Art Workshops for children, we are excited to join this vibrant community during the upcoming holiday season.”

The Wellington Artists, will be exhibiting in both the Harris Room and Minarovich Gallery, at the Elora Centre for the Arts (75 Melville Street) starting Nov. 1. The two galleries will be open from 11am to 5pm, Thursday through Sunday. In addition, they will be open on Friday evenings, from 7 to 10pm.

An opening reception is planned for Nov. 1, from 2 to 4pm.  Everyone is welcome.

The artists will begin to focus their talents on a Christmas-themed show, starting Nov. 20, with a Christmas reception from 7 to 9pm.  The Christmas show will run until Dec. 20.

Families are encouraged to pre-register children for any of the three workshops taking place on Dec. 5 and Dec. 12. Children will be able to create unique watercolor and colored pencil Christmas cards, make a “felted” handmade soap bar cover in a holiday design and produce a decorative clay tile for gift giving. These workshops will be run free of charge.

“The Elora Centre for the Arts is a wonderful facility which lends itself to creating an interactive experience with both art and artists,” McGill said.

“By organizing children-centred workshops, we hope to involve the community and provide opportunities for everyone to see an art gallery as more than just a gallery. We have such talented members working in a wide variety of media; it just makes sense to share their passion and talent with the community.

“Hopefully, this will be the start of a more community-focused gallery than we have provided in the past.”
