Weisenburg Road closure generates discussion

A recent assessment of several bridge structures in Centre Wellington led to a brief discussion on what impact and costs are associated when boundary road bridges are shut down.

As part of a general discussion on projects being undertaken by the works department, director of infrastructure Colin Baker noted a recent public meeting in October regarding a bridge in West Garafraxa and assessments being undertaken for several other bridge rehabilitation projects.

Baker noted the intent is for work to begin on those structures next year.

Councillor Kirk McElwain noted that Weisenburg Road across the Grand River is now closed. The bridge is on the Centre Wellington/Woolwich boundary. Baker said Woolwich Township just closed the road within the past month.

McElwain asked if the bridge was going to be repaired or what the plan was. Baker was uncertain.

McElwain then asked in the case of a boundary road, who would be responsible for the costs.

Baker believed boundary road costs are shared 50-50 for both structures and repairs.
