WEB ONLY: PC Party sets leadership date for June 26, 27

Following a meeting of the Ontario Pro­gressive Conservative Party execu­tive, party president Ken Zeise announced 22 that party members will vote to select a new leader on June 21.

The results of the voting will be announced at a con­vention in Markham June 27.

 The announcement follows the resignation of leader John Tory, who resigned on March 6. Veteran MPP Bob Runciman was elected interim leader on March 20.

“On behalf of the PC Party we would like thank John for his years of service, dedication, and hard work,” said Zeise.

He also confirmed he will lead the leadership steering committee that has been struck to ensure a smooth and fair process.

Important dates in the leadership process include the closing of nominations for leader at noon on April 17.. Only party members in good standing as of 10pm on May 14, will be eligible to vote for the new leader.

“This is an exciting time of renewal for our Party,” said Zeise. “People are engaged in the process and are looking forward to working with the new leader to defeat Dalton McGuinty in 2011.”
