On March 1, CWLL 46 (the Warriors) played an extremely close championship game with team 42, to whom they had lost their previous two matches.
After a scoreless first, team 42 scored a soft goal early in the second on goalie Kyle Young, who has been absolutely solid in net throughout the playoffs.
Warrior Hayden Ireland responded shortly after to tie the game. Ireland scored again half-way through the third to give the Warriors the lead, and created several opportunities throughout, including a slap-shot from just beyond the blue line that knocked the stick out of the goalie’s hands.
Team 42 tied the game two minutes later.
With 4.5 seconds left in the third, the Warriors incurred a penalty, which carried into overtime.
On the opening fourth period power-play, team 42 was able to find the net just over a minute in, with a strange bounce that cleared Young’s head and ended up behind him.
