Warning buoys and booms to be removed from area dams

Warning buoys and booms upstream of GRCA dams will be removed during October to prepare for winter. They will be put back in place in May after the spring runoff.

The removals are scheduled for:

– Oct. 12 ,  Dunnville dam and Byng Island weirs;

– Oct. 13, Caledonia dam, Wilkes Dam (Brantford);

–  Oct. 14, Parkhill dam (Cambridge), New Hamburg dam, and Wellesley dam;

– Oct. 18,  Bissel and Drim–mie dams (Elora), and Shand dam (Fergus;

– Oct. 20, Conestogo dam (Glen Allan), and Woolwich dam (Elmira)

– Oct. 21, Guelph dam, Everton dam, Rockwood dam; and

– Oct. 22, New Dundee dam, and Breslau dam.

The schedule is subject to change depending on weather conditions.

The buoys and booms are installed each May to provide warning to boaters about the danger of approaching the dams. Boaters should exercise extra caution around the dams after the buoys and booms are removed.
