oting won’t change for the Oct. 27 municipal election, but tabulating of votes cast is expected to be a little more streamlined. Council here voted in favour of a recommendation from CAO Mike Givens to lease vote tabulators for the upcoming election that will be housed at the two election day locations in Arthur and Mount Forest. “We think using this format will eliminate possible human error and require less election staff,” Givens told council.

Givens said voters will mark their ballots as in previous elections and insert them in a tabulator to be counted and to ensure the ballot is marked correctly.

The decision to go with tabulators was based on council’s decision to have polling stations and not move to a mail-in voting system.

The cost to lease the equipment is about $16,000 and would come out of the township’s $50,000 election budget.
