Meals on Wheels has been operating in Wellington County for many years, but volunteers and staff at the VON are hoping to raise awareness of the service for seniors.
Meals on Wheels volunteers deliver hot, nourishing meals to people unable to shop or cook.
The meals are prepared in government-inspected kitchens under contracts between VON and commercial caterers or institutional kitchens.
“This program would not be successful without the support of our Volunteer Drivers. Staff at the VON had the chance to sit down recently with drivers in Drayton, Harriston, and Palmerston to say thank you for delivering the hot meals daily.
These drivers and other covering Wellington County know first hand the benefit it has for seniors who are isolated in their home, the driver is sometimes their only contact that day,” states Colleen Lucas, volunteer co-ordinator for VON Peel Waterloo Wellington Dufferin region.
Anyone interested in volunteering for any VON progam or with questions about the services can contact the VON office in Mount Forest at 519-323-2330, or visit the website at www.von.ca for more information.
