Volunteers celebrated with pancake breakfast

Volunteers for Habitat for Humanity Wellington County (HFHWC) attended the second annual volunteer appreciation pancake breakfast on Feb. 11.

Held at St. George’s Anglican Church, staff and the board of directors were mixing, flipping and serving pancakes to volunteers. Several in attendance were recognized as five and ten year volunteers, receiving recognition plaques, hammers and aprons.

Rick Enthammer was awarded the Clare Irwin Volunteer-of-the-Year for being an integral part of the construction committee.

“We have one of the largest and most loyal volunteer bases in the community; we’re thrilled we can share our appreciation for them through this breakfast,” said volunteer coordinator Annie Devitt.

“It’s important that the organization express its gratitude to those who are the lifeblood of the organization, the volunteers.”

This year is penciled in to be the busiest build year in the 12-year history of the Guelph and Centre Wellington Habitat affiliate. Plans are to build two homes on Forfar Street. in Fergus and two homes on Paisley Road. in Guelph. the local group has never built more than three homes in a year.

“With the steady growth of our organization and our capacity to build more homes every year, we will be asking our volunteers to grow with us because they remain the backbone of the Habitat for Humanity mission.”
