Vimy Ridge Day Talk at Guelph Civic Museum with Michael Bechthold

To commemorate the Battle of Vimy Ridge, Michael Bechthold will speak on Canada and Vimy Ridge – An Iconic Battle at Guelph Civic Museum on April 9 at 2pm.

Mike Bechthold is the managing editor of Canadian Military History and the Communications Director of the Laurier Centre for Military Strategic and Disarmament Studies.

He teaches military history at Wilfrid Laurier University and has published many articles on the First and Second World Wars. He is the co-editor of a collection of essays on the Battle of Vimy Ridge entitledVimy Ridge: A Canadian Reassessment (WLU Press, 2007).

The Battle of Vimy Ridge was the first time during the Great War that all four Canadian Divisions assembled to fight as one corps. The Canadian objective during the Vimy Ridge Battle was to take control of the German-held northern escarpment.

After four days of battle, the Canadian Corps achieved their objective but suffered over 10,000  casualties.

The  Vimy Ridge Day Talk is included with regular admission. Guelph Civic Museum is located at 52 Norfolk Street.
