Veterinarian Cormack receives arts award

Dr. G. R. Cormack has been selected as the second recipient of the 2008 Headwaters Arts Lifetime Achievement award.

The award is to acknowledge his long time commitment and support to local art-ists and community arts groups.  Music, performance art, and visual arts have been nurtured and supported through his patronage over the years. He is one of the founding supporters of the Century Church Theatre in Hillsburgh, which has grown into a live performance venue.

He has owned The Burdette Gallery for nine years and has built on the vision of founder Paul Burdette, also a recent recipient of the award.

As a life-long veterinarian, Dr. Cormack spent many years as an educator within the field of veterinary medicine at the University of Guelph. In efforts consistent to his personal belief of building for the future, he has helped to establish educational facilities at the University of Guelph and Sheridan College. It is that life of caring, nurturing and teaching which continues now through his philanthropic work in his retirement years.

The award presentation coincides with a Burdette retrospective exhibition at the gallery that runs to Nov. 16.  For more information, visit the gallery at www.burdettegallery.com or phone Samantha Routledge, Gallery Director, 519-928-5547.
