Vehicle destroyed in fire at Guelph/Eramosa residence

GUELPH/ERAMOSA – A truck was destroyed and a nearby house received minimal damage following a vehicle fire here on Aug. 6.

The Guelph/Eramosa Fire Department responded to a vehicle fire on 6th Line about six minutes after receiving the call at 2:04am, Fire Chief Jim Petrik explained.

“The truck was fully engulfed in flames, but we were able to quickly extinguish the fire,” Petrik said.

“The truck was close to the house, but we were able to extinguish the fire before there was substantial damage to the house.”

Petrik said the homeowner heard a noise outside and noticed the truck was on fire in the driveway and made the call.

Three trucks responded and 12 firefighters arrived on scene.

Petrik estimated the damage to the Ford F150, which was destroyed, at $75,000. He added there was some melted siding on the house from the heat of the fire, though it was minimal.

Petrik said firefighters cleared the scene in about 45 minutes.

The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time.
