U of G students hope online contest is next step in budding country music career

University of Guelph students Jenna and Stuart Walker, better known in the country music industry as The Reklaws, are looking for support in an online contest to open for country stars Big and Rich.

As of May 24 the Cambridge natives were in second place out of five acts vying for the opportunity at www.musicinthefields.ca/saloonshowdown – and voting closes on June 4.

Music in the Fields is a two-day concert event set for Aug. 23 and 24 in Lucknow also featuring Blue Rodeo.

The Reklaws, billed as “Canada’s own dynamic country duo,” are a brother and sister act that burst onto the country music scene last year.

The duo has travelled to Nashville to write with some prestigious songwriters and their new single Kiss Kiss has received play on various radio stations.

“Country Music is in our blood – literally,” state Jenna and Stuart, who grew up on a farm just outside of Cambridge.

That experience, they say, has shaped them in many ways, and taught them to understand the true meaning and appreciation behind country music.

Now students at the  University of Guelph, The Reklaws say they are ready  to take their dreams to the next level.
