Councillors here agree with a public works committee recommendation that the town purchase a 3/4-ton replacement truck for the use of the Communities in Bloom committee and for snow plowing.

The $15,000 cost will be part of the 2009 budget.

Councillor David Turton said Minto is once again planning to compete in Communities in Bloom at a national level.

“Last year, we did extremely well,” he said.

However, he said, the truck that was used last year is no longer of any value, nor is it roadworthy.

Turton said the idea of the replacement truck would be to serve two or three purposes - although the main function in the summer would be for the Communities in Bloom work.

The motion quickly carried.
