Township to demolish old medical centre
As the old saying goes, it’s out with the old and in with the new in Rockwood.
Just as the East?Wellington Family Health team was planning a grand opening for the new medical clinic in Rockwood, Guelph-Eramosa council approved a contract for the removal of the former medical centre.
On Monday council approved a $24,447 bid from Drexler Construction for the demolition of the building and the restoration of Guelph?Street site.
Since only two bids were received - the other was for $24,815 from Budget Environmental Disposal Inc. - Parks and Recreation Manager Robin Milne was required to provide a report to council.
The demolition and site restoration were originally included in the 2009 budget, but will be carried over to the 2010 budget, with $14,574 coming from the medical centre reserve fund and $9,873 from the Rockwood Hydro reserve.
Council unanimously passed a resolution authorizing Milne to inform Drexler Construction of its successful bid.
Councillor John?Scott asked what will be done with the dedication plaque in the old centre. Mayor Chris White said the township would ensure the plaque was brought over to the new medical centre at some point.
A grand opening for the new building at the corner of Alma Street (Highway 7) and Inkerman Street is tentatively set for the morning of Jan. 23.
