As the end of 2017 nears, preparation is underway for a celebration on Dec. 31 to say goodbye to a year of 150th celebrations and kick off 2018.

Activities include: live entertainment on the Rotary Stage from 7 to 11pm featuring Poverty’s Arse with guest fiddler Aaron Soloman as well as musical duo Foghorn Saxhorn; free screenings of “Helicopter Canada” at the Gorge Cinema with local footage and artists displayed; strolling street performers; and children’s activities at the Elora Information Centre.

The Elora branch of the Royal Canadian Legion will offer its club room as a warming station, with free hot chocolate served by the First Fergus Scouts.

For those who live outside of Elora, CW Hydro is sponsoring a shuttle bus that will depart every 30 minutes from the Fergus Library to the Elora Information Centre from 6:45pm to 11:45pm. Fireworks take place at 11pm in downtown Elora to ring in 2018.

“It’s exciting and I’d like to see all of you out there on New Year’s Eve,” Mayor Kelly Linton said.

“... and have an awesome time with family and friends this holiday season.”
