Township reminds drivers: no stopping on John Street, behind Mount Forest Tim Hortons
WELLINGTON NORTH – The Township of Wellington North is reminding drivers that stopping is not allowed in posted “no-stopping” areas on municipal streets, including John Street in Mount Forest.
This reminder follows the township’s current parking control bylaw, which took effect on Nov. 1, 2023, and sets rules for where vehicles can park or stop on streets and in municipal parking lots across the township.
In no-stopping zones, vehicles are not allowed to stop at all – even for a short time.
This means drivers may not pull over to drop off passengers, wait briefly or idle their vehicle, unless it is necessary for safety or directed by a police officer.
These areas are clearly marked with signs and are often in place to keep traffic moving, improve visibility and protect pedestrians, officials say.
John Street in Mount Forest includes no-stopping zones, along with other municipal streets. Many no-stopping zones are in effect during weekday morning and afternoon peak times, especially near schools and busy areas.
Parking and stopping rules are enforced by bylaw enforcement officers and the OPP.
Drivers who stop in no-stopping zones may receive a ticket or face further enforcement action. Residents are encouraged to watch for posted signs, use approved parking spaces and plan pick-ups and drop-offs in permitted areas to help keep township streets safe for everyone, officials say.
