Township launches next phase of business retention and expansion program

The Township of Wellington North has officially launched the next phase of its Business Retention and Expansion (BR+E) Program.

The program, which was partially funded by OMAFRA, will take place over the next five months and results will be presented at the Wellington North Showcase on Mar. 28 and 29, 2011, at the Mount Forest & District Sports Complex.

Letters and surveys will be mailed to selected businesses and industries to assist the municipality in identifying their needs and concerns, ask their opinions about government and services, and determine in what ways the local business climate can be improved.

The Business Retention and Expansion project is an action-oriented and community-based approach to business and economic development.

Ultimately, communities have greater success in attracting new business if existing businesses are content with local economic conditions and community support.

This project is an excellent way to gain networks and business relationships in the community with the involvement of local businesses.

“The survey being mailed to local businesses has four purposes,” said Leah Holliday, Business Retention and Expansion Program Coordinator.

“First we want to show our local businesses that we appreciate their contributions to our local community. Second, we want to see if they have any concerns, and, if so, if there are ways we can help. Third, we will be offering ways to help our local businesses take better advantage of business resources and finally, the information from the surveys will help us to set priorities on the future directions of local economic efforts.

The survey is a critical tool to effective and well-managed economic development and will help lead to increased economic opportunities and improved quality of life in our community.

Any business who does not receive a survey can still participate by contacting the Economic Development Office.
