First there was a public meeting that attracted little or no interest, and then Centre Wellington council raised its building permit fees 2.3 per cent.

Council held the public meeting on July 12. When Mayor Joanne Ross-Zuj called for comments, there were none.

When council discussed authorizing a bylaw, councillor Bob Foster suggested that the hike was too large, with inflation at only 1 per cent.

Chief Building Inspector Bob Foster replied that the raise was the same at the township tax hike for this year.

When council voted, only councillor Foster was opposed and the motion carried.
