The township had a good year when it came to new construction, and Mayor John Green was quick to acknowledge that at council on Jan. 13.

“This is the second highest that I recall,” he said of the $28.6-million in construction. “It hit $30-million a couple of years ago … It’s been a pretty good building year in 2008.”

Chief Building Official Jim Baker reported the total for single family homes last year was 25; there were 42 additions to homes. There were 71 permits issued for accessory buildings to single family homes, eight additions or renovations to cottages, four commercial building projects, seven industrial building permits issued, eight more for institutional purposes, and 119 agriculturally related construction projects.

Baker said the township had $26.3-million worth of construction in 2007 and collected $202,859 in permit fees.

This year it collected $221,946 in permit fees.
