Wellington North is getting a helping hand from the federal government to improve drinking water.

Last week, Perth-Wellington MP Gary Schellenberger was in Wellington North announce the the $83,980 Ontario potable water program grant awarded to the township.

The program, announced in February, provides up to $50-million in financial support to promote local economic development in municipalities that have experienced increased costs for their Canada-Ontario infrastructure program (COIP) water projects to comply with changes to Ontario drinking water regulations.

“Through the Ontario potable water program, the government of Canada is fostering a growing economy and a cleaner environment for the people of Wellington North,” Schellenberger said.

“We are pleased to have received this support from the federal government for community development,” said Mayor Mike Broomhead.

Municipalities are considered for financing upon completion of their water projects.
