Township error means car dealer has to start over

A staff oversight has forced Puslinch Township to rescind a zoning bylaw for a local car dealer and reschedule another public meeting on the matter.

On Sept. 2, the township held a public meeting to rezone a property at 219 Brock Road North (County Road 46) to allow Milburn Auto Sales, a sales and service business, to relocate there.

Only two citizens attended the meeting, neither of whom had any comments, and council passed a bylaw approving the zone change.

But there was only one problem: the township did not provide proper notice of the bylaw to the City of Guelph.

Mayor Brad Whitcombe explained that means the township has to rescind the bylaw and start from scratch with the public meeting.

“You’ve been very patient … [and] done everything we’ve asked of you,” Whitcombe told  Robert Milburn. “My apologies on behalf of council and staff.”

The mayor said Milburn is doing “a fabulous job” on the site and noted the new public meeting is set for Oct. 7.
