Township does not support Prompt Payment Act requirements

Councillors here have taken issue with the provincially proposed Prompt Payment Act.

On March 19, councillors reviewed the motion put forward by councillor Ken Roth who contends  the proposed act provides for extremely short payment timelines which will not allow for appropriate review of work and certification of the payments process.

The motion further contends that the timelines are both imprudent and unrealistic to either provide payment or to have the work reviewed.

The contention was also voiced that the act would limit the township’s ability to hold back reserves for warranty and maintenance; nor does it reflect the complex nature of financial arrangements under large infrastructure projects.

As a result, the township does not support those aspects of Bill 69.

The motion passed without additional comment.
