Centre Wellington township water crews have repaired the water main break and are in the process of replacing a fire hydrant damaged from a single vehicle collision on Tower Street at Albert Street in Fergus on Oct. 16.

The accident involving a transport truck striking a fire hydrant and impacting a main water line on Tower Street South.

Residents and businesses in Fergus may experience discoloured or cloudy water caused by the main break.

While the water is safe for drinking, the township recommends that residents and businesses experiencing discoloured or cloudy water run their cold, unsoftened water tap closest to the water meter until the water is clear.  The water should clear within 10 minutes.

If it does not clear, wait 60 minutes and repeat the flushing process again.  If your water does not clear after 2 hours, please contact the Township Water Department pager at 1-888-886-9281.

When the water is clear, each tap should be run and toilets flushed to remove any discoloured water from the piping and resume normal water use.
