Town council here has indicated it would at least consider a one-time request to waive fees associated with the construction of a Habitat for Humanity home.

At a special meeting late last month, council agreed to consider waiving Erin’s portion of development charges as well as fees associated with the building permit, site plan, and zoning application should the organization be successful in purchasing a lot in?Erin.

Town staff estimated those costs could total up to $25,000 for a single home or $50,000 for a two semi-detached homes.

Town council also agreed to extend to April 15 the date for offers on a surplus piece of property on Mountainview Crescent, near the 9th Line.

Council declared the property surplus on?Feb. 16, and has placed advertising calling for offers on the site. The property was previously identified as a possible location for the Habitat for Humanity project, although provincial rules dictate the town must consider all offers for the land and accept the highest bid.
