Town to spend $43,000 for servers
The town will proceed a $43,000 replacement of two of the town’s computer servers, bit it was not unanimous.
On June 15, Finance Director Sharon Marshall said staff want to lower the number of servers being used. She said the warranty on the main “file” server expired in 2007 and a another one expires next year.
“The loss of warranty is not just a financial risk, it is a warning signal that the servers are aged and they are in danger of crashing at any time,” said Marshall. She suggested council accept a quote from HLB Systems Solutions, the town’s IT consultant, for $42,980 plus tax, and $20,000 is in the 2010 budget for upgrades and the rest can come from the “computer upgrade” reserve, which has a balance of $28,794.
Councillor Ken Chapman said it was too costly, and opposed it, but the plan passed.
