Town of Erin and Erin Rotary club partner for new Canada day celebration

ERIN  – The Town of Erin and the Rotary Club of Erin have partnered for the first ever Canada day Summer Fest celebration.

The event will be held at the Erin fairgrounds from 12 to 5pm on July 1. While Summer Fest has been an annual tradition in Erin since 2022, this year is the first Canada Day crossover for the festival.

“We try to really be involved in the community,” said Rotary Club member Diane Woodworth.

“We’re really excited because that partnership [with the Town of Erin] has allowed us to really expand the offerings for the day.”

The event will feature a bouncy castle, face painting, live music, food trucks, games, a beverage area for adults and much more.

The event is also acting as a fundraiser, with community businesses and organizations chipping in to cover event costs as well as donating funds towards Erin’s youth programs.

“This year it is youth,”said Woodworth. “Like helping support the high schools with their sports programs or music programs, supporting the East Wellington Community Services, The Grove and the Air Cadets.”

The event is free to attend for all ages and organizers are hoping for an attendance of 1,000 people or more.

“We’re hoping for 1,000 and maybe more will show up and we’ll be ready for them if they do,” said Woodworth.

The event will not feature fireworks as Woodworth says she wants to encourage visitors to make their way to the Orton Canada Day dinner and festivities afterwards.

“Our thought as a committee was that we didn’t want to compete with them,” said Woodworth. “We want to encourage people to go there afterwards.”
