Town council continues support of local ice rink
The Hillsburgh and District Lions Club is hoping to build on an outdoor rink tradition and on the success of past free-skate events, to again offer fun and recreational outings to local residents.
Club member Doug Smith came to council recently to ask for the usual $700 donation from the town, which will be put towards the construction of the rink at Victoria Park, as well as the club’s free skate event in February, which will include hot dogs and hot chocolate. Smith said if local youths have something to do at the park, perhaps incidents of vandalism will decrease.
Council unanimously passed a resolution appointing members to the rink committee and approving the funding request.
