Tocher: Candidates meeting a must
Councillor Barb Tocher is recommending newcomers and seasoned pros attend an upcoming municipal candidate information meeting on April 24 in Aboyne.
At the April 1 council session, Tocher said the workshop is being sponsored by all of the municipalities of Wellington County and is set for April 24 at the Aboyne Hall in Wellington Place at 7pm.
“For those of you who haven’t had the opportunity to hear Fred Dean speak, you will learn something,” Tocher said of the evening’s speaker, a lawyer who acts for Ontario municipalities and municipal associations.
The workshop provides an understanding of council’s roles and responsibilities and also explains how duties and responsibilities of public office will impact a person’s life.
He works with elected officials and senior staff giving them tools to make effective decisions on behalf of their communities. He has been one of the facilitators training members of council and heads of council on behalf of the Association of Municipalities of Ontario since 2002.
