Tiny trains, big fun – On Sept. 24, 65 “Tiny Trains” travelled to 11 Trendy Train Stations in Palmerston for the annual Tiny Trains Travel the Town event hosted by All Aboard Palmerston. This year the event focused on railway-themed activities.

Children arriving at one station played “Unload the Baggage Car.” Other stations featured singing with rhythm band instruments, listening to railway storybooks, making train crafts offered by the library, acting out the jobs of railway workers, enjoying the train-shaped cookies courtesy of the Palmerston Foodland, tossing “bean bag trains” down a ladder railway track, creating cards to cheer seniors at the Royal Terrace and placing mail in an vintage Canada Post mailbag, colouring Old 81 pictures, munching on popcorn from Palmerston Home Hardware, visiting the Early On Centre, and enjoying outdoor activities at the Railway Museum as the Farmers’ Market celebrated its last day of the season.

“Engineer” Wayne Martin provided mini-train rides. As well as Minto families, folks “chugged in” from Listowel, Drayton, Gorrie, Elmira and Fergus. Each child received a railway bandana and a Norgan Theatre pass.

Event coordinator Connie Robinson reported the talented volunteers, as well as the families, “steamed’ home after a fun-filled morning.
