Time to register for Jeanne Dalton memorial tournament

ELORA – Fifteen years after the sudden passing of longtime Centre Wellington  Softball volunteer Jeanne Dalton, her impact on the local softball community continues through an annual tournament held in her memory – one that now carries her legacy forward by supporting local charitable organizations.

This year’s Jeanne Dalton Charity  Three-pitch Memorial Tournament is set for Sept. 25 to 27. 

Dalton volunteered with CW Softball for many years and was known for the heart and soul she brought to the league. 

Following her passing in 2011, the Jeanne Dalton Memorial Tournament and Jeanne Dalton Heart & Soul Award were established in her memory. 

This year’s tournament will take place in Elora in the diamonds behind the Jefferson Elora Community Centre, bringing together adult recreational teams for a weekend of softball while raising money for a local cause.

Net proceeds will be donated to the Children’s Foundation of Guelph and Wellington.

This year La Reina is the  food vendor and operator of the licensed beer tent throughout the weekend. 

The community is welcome to come out to watch some softball, enjoy the food and beer tent, and help the league support a great local organization, officials say.

Registration is currently open for recreational teams interested in participating, with tournament information available at cwsoftball.ca.

Cost is $550 per team and includes a meal voucher for each player. 

League secretary Julie Charbonneau stressed that this is a co-ed tournament and every team must have at least three female players on the field at all times.

Charbonneau said last year 14 teams participated in the tournament and there is capacity to grow that number.

Teams can be local or from outside Centre Wellington.

“It’s a really fun, festive atmosphere,” she added.

“This tournament is not ultra competitive.”
